Let’s start with a bang!
We have the pleasure of interviewing H Town Hemp, one of the UK’s leading vendors of flavoursome CBD Buds and Pre Rolls.
The Interviewer
I have long been a fan of CBD flower. It has so many uses, from helping with aches and pains, assisting with sleep and as a bonus to all us THC users, can help calm negative effects from high THC strains and use.

A Little Bit About H Town Hemp
Let’s start with a little about H Town Hemp.
The page started around two years. The H in H Town is for Hackney (H town being the local name for Hackney).
Average prices for their flower go from £7 to £10 a gram. You can find the website here. They have an Instagram page you can find here, and if you search their name on Instagram or YouTube you can find lots of fantastic reviews of their flowers.
I wont bore you with the first five minutes we spent discussing call quality, and logistics. Or the ensuing conversation we had about the internet taking over the world!
So lets start……here
The Interview
‘H town Hemp started as you delivering CBD buds to your local community in Hackney, hence the name. When did this start, and was it really just CBD flower, or did it progress into that because of legality?’
‘Well, in my youth, I had a lot of knowledge to, lets just say the less legal side of flowers, I had a good reputation with that in my community. But what kicked it off was this video going round of two blokes buying legal weed in a shop in London, you know White Russian, AK47, this and that and just thought what the fuck. In the shop you can see weed jars in the background and I was well shocked.
Anyway, I turn to my boy and I am like “you saying there is legal weed, in London”, Then in the video they start saying the address and where it is. So the next day we jumped in the car and drove down there. We go in the shop, he starts showing me the flower and explaining how its low THC and just CBD to fit in with EU and UK laws and all this and that, and when I saw it a light bulb went off in my head. Boom, this is my background, this my is my thing ya know.‘
‘You thought, FINALLY you could do this legally as a job.’
‘Exactly. So we bought some and we are driving back to the manner and rolling one up, we light it and instantly think “what the hell man, this is shit”. I had the THC mindset and was just thinking no thank you, you know I had the THC taste, THC effects all in my head and this stuff was not doing it. The quality was also shit, but the THC mindset I had made it even worse. But then a few weeks later, I get connected with another guy, a bit more local, and he hooked me up with an ounce of a banging bit of CBD flower.
It totally opened my eyes to what it could be.’
‘So you found a good connect for CBD flower?’
‘Yeah, and I started shotting it out. So ounce after ounce it was moving and things were going really well. But it was only the local community you know and I wanted it to go further. Especially after a close friend’s mum got cancer, she survived it, but at the time she was in a lot of pain. My friend is a ‘natural route’ kind of guy you know, he didn’t want her taking extra chemicals on top of the chemo and all of that.
So I gave him a little 2 gram of some good CBD flower and told him to keep it for when she needed it. Anyway, a few weeks later, I get a voicemail and he explained how his mum was in real pain, she smoked my CBD flower, as you know she smokes ciggies so she tried it, and boom her pain had gone. But on top of that, she could breathe better, as she had issues with her lungs, but it helped with that too. It was a proper success story!’
‘So that was what pushed you into going bigger and not just helping the local community?’
‘Spot on. The thing is, I have never had social media, Facebook, Instagram or any of that kind of thing ya know. If people needed me, they had my WhatsApp. That was it. So all of that was a real learning curve for me. The website, and then an Instagram page.
My pal followed my page on Instagram and was saying how have you only got like 9 followers. He looks at my posts and starts laughing at me telling to use a hashtag and spread the word. I had no idea what a hashtag was so I started learning, and quickly.’
‘I can imagine it was tough.’
‘Very much so. Learning the rules of Facebook groups and Instagram posts was a long part of the process.’
‘So once you had a new supplier and everything was running, did you find getting your product difficult due to customs, and the obvious fact it looks like Cannabis, and not what people think Hemp would look like?’
‘Not really. In fact, the most difficult I have is with American suppliers.’
‘I guess that is due to them legalising Cannabis and the obvious resemblance I previously mentioned?’
‘Its more down to the labelling and paperwork that goes with the product. Most EU sellers, in places like Spain, Italy and Switzerland, will put plenty of paperwork, and lab test results so that customs and those people can see exactly what it is. But US suppliers don’t often do it as much, and this can cause issues. I have had 5 packages from the US seized, and at the UK side too, not the US.’
‘But do you think that’s because they think its Cali weed, and so they nick it?’
It could be possible because of the resemblance and looks. You can see them arrive at UK border, then that’s it. Its possible someone thinks they are THC flowers and takes them, as I have still not had anything from customs about those packages.
‘That must drive you mad.’
‘It really does!’
‘I can imagine it must be hard in customs though nowadays? I mean, your last batch of Biscotti, was insanely good. When I opened that bag, my mouth was watering. It is genuinely better than some THC flower I have had. Also that Blueberry batch I did the review for, that was insane. I had some blueberry THC weed at the same time, and the CBD flower tasted and looked better than its THC counterpart.’
‘Yeah that Biscotti is a good batch. But the thing is, it all comes with paperwork and lab tests to show it contains less then the legal maximum of 0.02% THC so its never really a problem. But a good thing for CBD suppliers to know is, paperwork helps the package arrive!!’
‘Considering your background as we spoke about before, and the obvious links to cannabis that CBD has, do you find yourself under much scrutiny from people and receiving much negativity?’
‘I am going to be honest, and probably shock you. The most negativity I get is from the hardcore THC user. They try CBD expecting a high, and the THC flavours, and then complain its not there. Firstly, lets get one thing clear, THC can have a negative effect. It can cause psychosis. Its not always good with THC. CBD is more about health. Whether that be mental health or physical health, CBD is good for you.
People seem to forget that not everyone wants to get stoned all the time. You may need help sleeping, or with aches and pains, and CBD can do that. Plus, I find a fair few customer are ex THC smokers, who miss the ritual of smoking a joint, but don’t want to be canned all the time.’
‘I can relate to that!’
‘That’s just it, you see, not everyone enjoys being canned, and CBD offers you all the benefits, without what some people class the negatives.’
‘Talking of negatives, I have heard and seen some stories of retailers being arrested for selling CBD flower, or at least that’s what the papers suggest, does that worry you at all?’
‘Without naming names or saying who said what, I have heard that these arrests are all related to more then just CBD flower sales. This becomes all the more obvious when you realise just how many shops do sell CBD flower openly, with no issues. Its never just CBD flower.’
‘That’s also what I had heard funnily enough. Do you see CBD ever helping legalisation of THC?’
‘Yes, but maybe not for recreational, but for medical issues. Once we show people how CBD can help, and how much good it can do, we can then start to convince people that THC also has a place in helping people. Because it really can. The thing is, there some people that need the extra strength that THC can bring.’
‘I like that approach, I think we need a more level headed way of ushering legalisation. So moving on a bit, lets talk about your products and some of your new things coming out.’
‘OK.’
‘So you have just started selling pre rolls, I am lucky enough to have already tried the T1 Haze and Hawaiian Haze pre rolls, and you are also about to launch your own gummy bear range.
How do you go about doing this, is all done in house, or do you source and purchase the products?’
‘So, funnily enough, the pre rolls comes from a US link I have. They have great flowers, tastes fantastic, has great CBD levels but it hasn’t got the bag appeal all my other flower has. But I wanted to get out to the people as it is quality product. Add to that I had wanted to add pre rolls to the website, this seemed the best route to go.
With regards to the gummy bears, I have been testing gummy bears for ages, and finally found a reliable supplier. They have been the hardest to source as there is so many variants to them. Some companies coat the gummy in CBD, and some infuse it into the gummy bear. I do not see why you would want it coated, as once you suck the coat off, its just a gummy bear. There is also the different types of extraction used to infuse the CBD into the gummy. I prefer a full extract so that it contains all the beneficial cannabinoids, and not just the CBD.’
‘Funnily enough that is also my preference, it’s all about whole plant extract!’
‘Spot on! All the different cannabinoids in the plant can help and aid the human body, so why not have them all!’
‘OK, so now on to some quick-fire questions or scenarios for to show off some of the selection of flowers on your website.’

‘You smoke weed every day. When you don’t smoke for whatever reason, you get really hyperactive and tonight you are meeting the in laws for the first time. You do not want to be visibly baked and forgetting what you said mid-sentence, but by the same token, you don’t want to be going all ADHD when meeting
Which bud would you recommend?
‘OK fucking hell, Bruce Banner. Bruce Banner. Its an immediate hitter, you feel it straight away. But its also a straight up hybrid, enough Indica to relax the ADHD but Sativa enough to also stop you sleeping in the corner, you know, no one needs a full on Indica when they have the in laws over.’
‘Very true, no one needs to be monged out in front of the in laws.’
‘Exactly, so the Bruce Banner has the best of both worlds, and being a THC smoker, the effect is quick and hard, so they should still notice it.’
‘I must say I do like the Bruce Banner you have, both times I have purchased it, it has done just that.’
‘Plus our latest batch is 23% so really strong!’
‘OK Next one. You have been struggling with your sleep patterns and have decided to try some legal flower to assist you, despite having never smoked before…something tasty and relaxing?
Which bud would you recommend?’
‘Cannatonic, no doubt. Its probably the most medical one we have, and it really helps with sleep. With all honesty, its probably the best for that. Although I personally like and have also been told that the Amnesia is really good for sleep also, so I can recommend that. But with all honesty, CBD reacts differently for everyone, so its pretty much a personal thing people need to try for themselves.’
‘Yeah, one thing with cannabis and hemp that always surprises me, is how differently it can affect people.’
‘Very much so bruv, so everyone needs to find what suits them best. But cannatonic and amnesia really say CBD helps sleep. Also, we are just about launch, this week hopefully, the CBD bath bombs. The feedback I have had on them has been great, and most people said they slept great after using them, so worth checking them out too.’
‘Mr Jekyll…or Mr Hyde…Which strain would you recommend for a person that suffers from extreme mood swings to help balance out their mood?’
‘V1 Haze. It relaxes you yet helps focus the mind. Plus the smoke on that one is so good. Great flavour, definitely V1 Haze.’
‘OK final one.
You are “working at home” for the day want to enjoy a nice daytime CBD flower that helps to focus and keep you motivated, but you also want a good flavour and enjoyable smoke, what strain would you pick?’
‘Harlequin!’
‘Agreed, and its what I have been smoking.’
‘Yeah, that one helps focus really well, and the flavour is really on point!!’
‘I really enjoy Harlequin, its such a good daytime smoke, and always comes with great flavour.’
‘Yeah, I often get compliments on it. Its certainly a favourite for many.‘
